Issue Position: Individual Liberty and Civil Rights

Issue Position

In an age of rapidly growing technology, expanding choices in our daily lives, and limitless possibilities, we find ourselves precariously balancing the scales of security and liberty.

I believe in an individual's right to privacy.

I will staunchly oppose intrusive government monitoring and surveillance of your phone calls, text messages, emails, and social media, as well as oppose the domestic use of drones and aerial surveillance for any purpose, including measuring "impervious surfaces" on your private property for the purposes of the "Rain Tax."

I will also oppose the use of so-called "Smart Meters" by the power companies on citizen's homes and will do whatever possible to limit their use, implementation, and any fees BGE attempts to impose on people who choose to opt out of this untested and potentially dangerous technology.

I am an unwavering advocate for an individual's right to self-defense and security in their home, persons, effects, and property.

This right is the most basic of all rights to all living things, guaranteed in our Constitution, and I will work tirelessly to repeal unconstitutional and arbitrary limits placed on this right by SB281. I simply do not believe that disarming law abiding citizens makes them safer and will not sit silently while men and women with round-the-clock bodyguards tell their constituents that they aren't entitled to defend themselves in an emergency.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away and the criminal is already in your home.

To paraphrase Thomas Jefferson, if "it neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg" what business is it of mine?

I have no interest in attempting to control or regulate relationships between consenting adults in the privacy of their homes, nor do I believe it is the business of any government what an individual does that effects no one but themselves.

Civil Rights and Individual Liberty are about adherence to the Bill of Rights and what we choose to do that harms no one else, not about dictating to others how to live their lives in accordance with what we may, or may not, personally believe.

I will oppose any and all attempts to restrict the right of the individual to peaceably live their lives as they see fit.
